If you see no hounds on this page it doesn't necessarily mean there are no bassets looking for Forever Homes - hounds will not always appear here straight away if they need any vet care (such as spaying or neutering), or if we are assessing them for temprement.
E-mail Helen mailto:helen@bassetrescuecalgary for further information, or fill in an adoption application. As soon as we have a hound that may fit into your family we will be in touch. We ask for a donation of $100-$250 (depending on the age and health of the dog) to be given when adopting a hound to help us to cover the cost of vetting our charges.
If there is a strong applicant for a hound they will be listed as 'adoption pending'. This doesn't necessarily mean they have a forever home, just that they are meeting with a prospective adopter soon and may not be available for long. Feel free to stil enquire about these hounds and we'll update you on where they are in the adoption process!

He is a sweet, loving 5 boy, approximately 5 years old and already housetrained, neutered, and up to date on his shots. He loves people and is just a great laid-back hound. If you think he'd be a good fit for your family, let us know!

Hi Everyone! I'm about 18 months and a lively, active, sweet, cuddly, intelligent, adventurous girl. I started out with a rough start in life I was in a very neglectful and abusive environment. Although Mr.Vet told me I m still a bag of bones I m in great spirits and overall a very healthy girl. I'm a busy girl and I'm always on the go, I love to follow my nose and run like the wind Yippee!!! So the gaining weight thing is going to take some time. I am SO READY for my forever home! I love to play with my buddy Marely who is part hound, so we get quite rowdy when we get started. I love the water, going for walks, and love to play with other dogs, sometimes I get scared with some big loud noises still but if you just cuddle me and show me it's ok, I get all the confidence I need to get back out there!! I love children but because I am so lively I would be best in a home with older children, I might hurt the little ones without meaning to hurt them and I m a sensitive girl so I would feel terrible. I'm ready and waiting for someone to take me to obedience classes I can't wait to shine and show my smarts!! I learn quickly and love to see you smile when I do. If you are looking for a puppy with personality, great looks, and intelligence? Well look no further I have all these traits bundle into one adorable package!! I'm housetrained but you will still need to make sure that you take me outside when I wake up and then praise me lots when I pee so I keep up the good work!! I am also crate trained and have no problem sleeping in my crate or going in for some down time if you can't watch me I will snuggle with some toys and chewys, sometimes I like to howl once or twice but with a stern No I get the idea that, it won't get me anywhere! Hey can you blame me? I love to cuddle and snuggle in fact my favourite place to sleep is on the bed or couch with a loving human pillow. I have been de-wormed, micro-chipped and all my shots are up to date.

Flash is due to head up from the states in late Jan/early Feb.
See the handsome looking block-head up there, that's me Flash. I was surrendered to rescue when my owners could no longer care for me or afford my food. When I was getting looked over by the nice people at the vet clinic it was discovered I was heart Worm positive and they called rescue and told them they had one handsome looking boy and here I am. I have since received the necessary Heart Worm treatment and took it like a champ, didn't slow me down one bit. I will not have any lasting effects of Heart Worm but will need to be kept on year round preventative for the first 2 years after adoption and will need to be retested in 4 months to make sure the treatment worked like it should. Mom and Dad can not get over just how sweet and mellow I am....I have a grouchy hound brother here, Sancho, and even he doesn't mind me....I just stick to myself and to my humans for some extra lap lovin. I have other hound brother and sisters here to and get along great with all of them. I think I would like the company of at least one of dog in the home but if not I think I would just love a family to call my own! I am a low to the ground stauky fellow weighing around 45 lbs. I am UTD on all vaccinations, de-wormed and altered.

Poor Bobby has not had an easy few months. We were originally supposed to get him as an owner relinquish a few weeks ago, but his owner rehomed him herself before handing him over. Thanks to a tumultuous few months, this sweet boy is suffering from seperation anxiety and tends to panic when left alone. He really needs a family who is willing to work on his fears to show him that they're always going to return and not dump him like his previous owners.
Originally picked up by Animal Control, and never claimed by his family, Bobby was adopted by a family who had to give him up because of noise complaints from neighbours. His next family have also decided to give him up because they too don't have the time or patience to work through Bobby's fears. This boy has been through at least 3 families, plus Animal Control in under 6 weeks, and he's very confused and looking for some stability. He's currently with one of our wonderful foster homes and enjoying being with his foster dad who works from home and is able to give Bobby the kind of love and reassurance he needs right now.
Bobby is reportedly a very good natured, playful, curious boy that gets on well with people and other dogs. He loves to snuggle and really is at his happiest when he's with his family. He'd do very well with a canine companion or as a single hound with people that are home-based, and once his abandonment issues have been worked on he's going to be a very easy boy to have around. Are you the right family to show Bobby that he's finally got his forever home?

Snoopy is currently in Iowa with one of our affiliate basset rescues; they are still overrun with homeless hounds, and after the success of our other transports this year we've decided to do it again before the weather makes the roads impossible to rely on over winter.
This lovely boy has recently lost a whopping 55lb's, shrinking down to an 80lb hunk of love from the 125lb pooch he was. Snoopy has been in foster care for a while whilst he was cared for and brought down to a healthy weight but he's finally ready for his very own forever home! Previously owned by a truck driver that indulged both his and Snoopy's on-the-road hamburger cravings a little too often, his weight will have to be watched carefully.. old habits die hard for both humans and hounds, and a burger and fries are a tempting combination! He's about 6 years old, loves to play with his stuffed toys and loves kids. Drop us a line if you're interested in this hound.

Sissy is currently in Iowa with one of our affiliate basset rescues; they are still overrun with homeless hounds, and after the success of our other transports this year we've decided to do it again before the weather makes the roads impossible to rely on over winter.
This sweet 7 year old (not that you'd know it!) girl is very laid back, loves other dogs and people and is all-around a joy to have about. She's working hard on her housetraining in her foster home and is doing very well - her foster parents think she'll have it down in no time. She was an owner relinquish with Wheels (see below) and ended up in rescue after her previous family fell into financial hardship, but has been taken good care of in the past and is a healthy girl.
If you're looking for an easy to please family member who just wants a lap to snuggle in, drop us a line and we'll get you some more info on this little lady.
