Calgary Basset Rescue

We work extremely closely with Cherlyn and her team up in Edmonton to make sure we find our charges the perfect forever homes and often have hounds popping up and down the #2 highway to find their new families.  The communication between us and them is essential in making sure we can help all the hounds and adopters in this and surrounding provinces and we're very grateful that we have them to work with.

Run by the wonderful Leslie Ames down in Frenchtown, MT we have had a long relationship with Montana Basset Rescue.  Leslie runs a wonderful organisation and is truly a basset angel!  Several of us here in Calgary have furbabies that came from Frenchtown so Montana Basset Rescue has a special place in our hearts.

I was introduced to Helena Poist over at Hounds Haven by a fellow rescuer based in New Mexico with All Ears Basset Sanctuary, Chris Dowd. I'd mentioned to Chris that we had a few adopters waiting for hounds but no hounds, so she put us in touch with Helena down in Iowa who was literally overflowing with hounds.  Thanks to some help from Tina Gauthier, we had our first 4 US hounds up here and into loving forever homes helping to take a little bit (although not nearly enough) strain off our friends in Iowa.  We have plans to bring more hounds to safety up here so that they can continue to do the great work they do in pulling hounds out of kill shelters and into loving foster and forever homes.  Helena and all her colleagues do a wonderful job of saving bassets in Idho and surrounding states and we're really happy to have them as allies across the border!

We have recently become very well acquainted with Tina Gauthier at Cut Bank thanks to all the work she does on putting together transports to get animals in danger to safety.  Tina works with all breeds and has been the driving force behind planning all of our cross-border transports to bring US hounds to new Canadian forever homes.  Her work saves countless numbers of dogs of all breeds and we truly take our hats off to her.

Run by the fabulous Chris Dowd, All Ears is geographically a long way from us in Cowtown, but has been instrumental in putting us in contact with other rescuers.  All Ears is a wonderful rescue and we're really glad to have friends in far-flung places!
